Miami Music Week, Winter Music Conference, Ultra Music Festival, what’s not to love about Miami in the last week in March? With all of the world’s best electronic acts in a city full of world-class venues, it’s safe to assume we’re getting pretty excited for our annual visit to South Beach. We’re going to point you in the right direction with a list of our essential parties throughout the week at our favorite venues. Act quickly though, because MMW tickets sell out faster than Coachella with a Daft Punk rumor. If your plan A gets spoiled, check out the Events Calendar for a full list of events that are sure to get you moving and help you thaw out after this arctic winter. Without futher ado, The Venue Reuve’s MMW schedule:
The Pre Party: Wisdom of the Glove, Story
Saturday, March 22nd 10PM
From the glamorous Pacha, Ibiza to The 1896 warehouse studios in Brooklyn, we’re positive there is no place on earth Guy Gerber can’t pack with his now world-famous concept. After a brief break from touring, he’s ready to bring his party back to the iconic South Beach club, Story, for the 2nd time. We have no doubt it will be the perfect way to start off your week and if your a fan of Guy’s beautiful sound, you probably don’t want to miss the inevitable premiers he will bring with him from his recent studio time. Support is coming from Davide Squillace and Martin Buttrich but we wouldn’t be surprised to see that list grow in the next few weeks. Tickets can be found here.
We Live Here, Catalina Hotel
Wednesday March 26th 3PM-5AM
You’re getting pretty excited for the weekend and you want a good party to hold you over, but you don’t want to exhaust yourself in the pregame. The answer? Take $10 to the Catalina Hotel’s rooftop pool at 5pm and support the local Miami talent at the aptly named “We Live Here.” The Kung Fu Lounge will feature live music, performers and artists from the Miami area and the proceeds are forwarded to local charities. The party will go all night, but you might want to get some rest for what’s in store beginning tomorrow. Venue details can be found here. Venue details can be found here.
Think you can handle 5 straight days of nonstop madness? Then we recommend heading to Space to see two legends go B2B on the terrace. Details can be found here.
In the Mood, Raleigh Hotel
Thursday March 26th 12PM-11PM
Nicole Moudaber, Carl Cox’s protégé, has been making waves in dance music ever since she first started promoting in her home country of Lebanon. Now it’s your turn to make a few with the techno queen and her mentor at the Raleigh Hotel pool where she’s hosting her worldwide party series “In The Mood.” Moudaber herself insists, “the Miami edition will be extra special.” It starts at noon and goes till 11, so you might want to plan on a late dinner. Check out her official trailer if you still need some convincing.
Plan B: Dirtybird BBQ, details here.
tINI and the Gang Cruise, South Beach Lady
Thursday March 27th 3PM-9PM
You’ve been in Miami for a few days and you haven’t stepped foot on a boat yet? Time to change that with Resident Advisors #12 DJ of 2013, tINI, and her Ibiza premise “tINI and the Gang.” The South Beach Lady might be the best public yacht venue Miami has to offer and with support coming from NY’s dominating resident Bill Patrick, it’s guaranteed to be a great time.
Paradise at Ice Palace Studios
Thursday, March 27th 10PM-5AM
Jamie Jones has been taking his little slice of Paradise all over the world since its Ibicencen debut in 2012 at the islands famous airplane hanger turned nightclub, DC10. Unfortunately, his good friend, Hot Natured band mate and Hot Creations label cofounder, Lee Foss, is evidently banned from the originating island of the Paradise parties. As if the rare opportunity to see the duo perform together isn’t enough, the ravishing Anabel Englund will be there to provide live vocal (and visual) support. Still not convinced? What if I told you Seth Troxler, Guy Gerber, and Eats Everything filled out the first line of the event poster? We’ll see you there.
If Paradise sells out before you read this, the French Express Showcase with Moon Boots and Isaac Tichauer at LMNT Studios would be a good way to minimize your despair and relieve some stress on your wallet. It’s also one of the few quality 18+ parties of the weekend.
Battle Royale, Dubfire & Seth Troxler B2B Sunrise Cruise
Friday, March 28th @ 6AM-12PM
If you haven’t had enough after Paradise, don’t go to bed, head over to Hard Rock Café and climb aboard the Biscayne Lady at 6am to watch the sun rise. With an open bar until lunchtime, just make sure you don’t presumptuously buy tickets to any Friday afternoon pool parties if you’ve been dancing since Paradise.
The Bohemian Yacht Club’s Sunset Cruise
Friday, March 28th @ 6PM-9PM
So you went to take a nap by the pool or on the beach after the sunrise cruise, but you don’t want to miss the sunset do you? Time to climb aboard your second yacht of the day, the Musette. This time we’re going deep and dark as the sun disappears with Mano Le Tough, DJ Tennis, Catz ‘n Dogz, My Favorite Robot and Brian Johnson. Be sure to take full advantage of the food on board, because there’s a long night ahead.
ENTER., Ice Palace Studios
Friday, March 28th
After building his Ibiza resume at Sven Väth’s legendary Cocoon (also coming to MMW, check the events calendar for details), Ritchie Hawtin launched his own project ENTER. in 2012 at the consistently ranked #1 club in the world, Space, Ibiza. Friday, he is bringing his unique combination of music, technology, and hopefully, Japanese sake, to the Ice Palace studios. That’s not all he’s bringing though. With one of the best lineups you will see all week, you’re going to get to hear some of hottest names in dance music together in one night. Allow us to point out some of the nights inevitable highlights: Hawtin, Tale of Us, tINI, Apollonia, Matador, Mano Le Tough, and Adam Beyer B2B Ida Engberg.
An excellent alternative would be to head to Space for the Diynamic Showcase. Solomun has taken his label to new heights with a catalogue of fresh talent and new releases in 2013, and Space is the perfect venue to host every star on the label. With Marcel Dettmann and Chris Leibing in the Loft, Paul van Dyke playing a marathon set in the main room, and Mark Knight taking over the Terrace form 8am to 2am, it will be an action packed night with something for everyone.
Really late to the party? With these 2 massive shows going on simultaneously, you should be able to get a ticket to the always-electric Maya Jane Coles at Cafeina Lounge.
Born Electric Cruise, Biscayne Lady
Saturday, March 29th, 3PM-9PM
Had enough of the yacht parties? Of course not, you’re in Miami! You’ve gotten 9 hours of sleep after ENTER., (if you’re lucky) and its time go set sail once again on the Biscayne Lady. This time with the trio of infinite talent led by none other than the Pioneer master, and head of Born Electric label, James Zabiela. With Scuba and Tensnake rounding out the headliners so far, this cruise is sure to scare the dolphins away with some heavy tunes. It will have you back at 9pm, just enough time to grab a quick bite and get ready for the final stretch.
Crosstown Rebels Present Get Lost Miami, Ice Palace Studios
Saturday, March 29th 5PM-5AM
The Grand Finale. And damn, is it grand. The lineup is too big to list. You have to read it four or five times to grasp the depth of the talent crammed into this 12-hour marathon. The highlight here is sure to be MK, who we’re disappointed to concede, has yet to announce a party of his own and instead listed a myriad of guest appearances across the city throughout the weekend. If you’re sitting down and ready to read the best $50 lineup we have ever seen, you can find it here.
We should also mention that there is a Get Physical label party at Treehouse tonight. Treehouse is an amazing venue and Get Physical represents a lot of the industry’s leaders. If Get Lost gets sold out, keep an eye out for the lineup at Treehouse here. And if by some miracle Get Physical brings all their C-listers (highly unlikely), Maceo Plex will be throwing down at Trade.
Before you know it, it’s Sunday morning. Can you still stand? Had enough? If your legs aren’t jelly and you need one last fix before returning to normalcy, then there’s quite literally the Last Resort, back at the Ice Palace on Sunday, March 30th. With yet another amazing lineup that is sure to close out the week with a bang, we’re curious as to how Ice Palace Studios managed to dominate this list, but we’re equally excited to find out.
So there you have it: 10 perfectly good reasons to step foot into Bayfront Park.
