“Grand Reveal” of Avalon Hollywood with Erick Morillo

May 10, 2014 @ 9:30 pm - 11:55 pm

| $40

One of the oldest venues in the United States has once again been renovated, this time with a fresh dose of LED’s, a Club.one sound system and refinished notions that hint toward the venues near century long history.

The building at 1735 Vine St was designed by Academy Award winning German art director Carl Jules Weyl and Southern California architect Henry L. Gogerty and opened in 1927 as The Hollywood Playhouse. During The Great Depression, the building was used by the government and renamed The WPA Federal Theater. From 1945 to 1967, the venue presented everything from burlesque shows to ABC television. Iconic performers including Bing Crosby, Liberace and Louis Armstrong all filled the walls with their sound. The Ramones also played their 2263rd and final show in 1996 when the building was named The Palace.

In 2002, Hollywood Entertainment Partners purchased the building, renamed it Avalon and have been hosting parties with DJ’s from every corner of dance music since 2004. The club has been a regular on both DJ Mags Top 100 Clubs as well as receiving Resident Advisors best club/atmosphere list. In an effort to maintain and advance those positions they began a inconspicuous renovation in December of 2013 during the week, while impressively maintaining a regular party schedule during the weekends.

To celebrate the “Grand Reveal,” Avalon is hosting a 4 night marathon of parties that will rage well into the morning hours, with Erick Morillo hosting the final night with a 5 hour set. The party starts at 9:30, and is scheduled to run until 7am.

From Avalon themselves:

“Since the celebration of Avalon’s 10th Anniversary last October, highly skilled craftsmen have been working around the clock on the meticulous restoration and dramatic upgrade of this 1927 Hollywood Landmark. Ushering in its next decade of dominating LA’s nightscape, this now completed renovation will ensure Avalon continues to set the bar for North American nightlife.”
