When: February 27th, 2014
Where: Output Club, Brooklyn, New York
Detroit producer Mark Kinchen returned to dance music two decades after his last number one hit with yet another chart topper when he released his remix of Strom Queen’s “Look Right Through” in 2013. His first claim to fame was in 1993-4 when his songs “Always” and “Love Changes” both reached #1 on the US Billboard Dance Chart. He followed it up with a pair of underground dance anthems “Burning” and “Always” in ’95 before taking a long hiatus from the dance scene, spending some of his time producing in the early 2000’s for Will Smith.
Back in a big way as an “entirely new producer,” MK is once again taking dance music by storm. After deciding that pop music and the mainstream was, in his words, “a waste of time,” he commenced his comeback with Afrojack and the Hot Natured Label in 2012. For 2014, he’s ready to turn out a host of highly anticipated remixes and originals. He debuted 11 of them in last Friday’s Essential Mix with Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1 (his first since 1995), which, in our humble opinion, has to be in the running for Essential Mix of The Year.
Coming off a strong New York presence in 2013 that included 2 brief sets; one as special guest at Pacha’s E-Zoo after party and another brief set at Output’s in November, as well as his own party at Brooklyn’s TBA warehouse last year, MK is set to make his big 2014 NYC debut later this month with his very own event at the hottest venue in the big apple, Output. In it’s rookie year, the Williamsburg club has made its mark on the dance music scene by bring in word-class, cutting edge talents to its perfectly designed venue on a more consistent basis than any other NY marquee. From Disclosure’s packed night in January to Seth Troxler’s recently announced residency, this Williamsburg warehouse is already a key player in making the case for New York as the worlds top destination for dance music in 2014.
A couple of weeks ago, Output confirmed a rumor that had worked its way through the New Yorks electronic scene: MK would indeed return to the city to host his own party at New York’s hottest venue, and February 27th was marked as the night not to be missed. Titled “MK & Friends,” we’re excited to see whom he brings along in addition to the already exciting Panther Room lineup. Fingers crossed for some of the Hot Natured crew.
The Panther Room will be lead by none other than the NY rising star and Robot Heart cofounder Bill Patrick. Bill had his hand on the decks of just about every big party in NY last year including the Verboten parties, Marco Carolla’s Music On residency at Marquee, Guy Gerbers Wisdom of the Glove and Blk|Market’s 24 hour New Years Eve party at Output. With support coming from Blk|Market cofounder and NYC Techno mogul Tiamur, we can’t imagine why a New York dance fan would want to be anywhere else in the world.
